Fit

What is the difference between Orza Pro 1 and 2.0?

We offer two unique models of ballet shoes within our ORZA collection: Orza Pro One and Orza Pro 2.0. Our patented technology is the same in both models, but the fit is very different! The Pro 1 is our original model. After listening carefully to dancers and evaluating feedback, we made fit updates and released the Orza Pro 2.0. This updated model is designed for a streamlined, foot-hugging, and aesthetically pleasing fit. Orza Pro 2.0 is considered our flagship shoe. Please see individual fit notes in the tabs below, and be sure to consult the detailed fit notes and sizing charts available on individual product pages.

How do I find my OP2.0 size when ordering online?

OP2.0: Orza ballet shoes run 'true-to street-shoe.' Please select your typical US street shoe size and consider the sizing chart located here:

Female: Sizing Chart

Male: Sizing Chart

Width: OP2.0 Medium width will fit the majority of feet. Please select the appropriate width if you have true narrow or wide feet, and consult the 'ball girth' measurements on our sizing chart.

*Please note: Ballet shoe sizing varies across brands, and we cannot make a fit recommendation based on another brand's sizing. We understand that buying ballet shoes without trying them on first can be challenging. Should you need any additional guidance prior to purchase, please reach out to us at contact@orzabrand.com.

How do I find my OP1 size when ordering online?

In general, ORZA ballet shoes run 'true-to-street-shoe-size.' However, in the Orza Pro One, we recommend taking ½ - 1 size down from your typical US street shoe size. Orza Pro One has high-profile sides and a long vamp, and is an all-around roomier fit with more material through the arch and toe areas when compared to the Orza Pro 2.0

Do you offer additional widths?

Yes! The Orza Pro 2.0 is available in 3 widths; Narrow, Medium, and Wide. At this time, OP1 comes in one standard width (medium).

Will my shoes stretch at all?

Orza Pro ballet shoes are made of 100% cotton canvas. They will stretch only slightly, and will soften and mold to your feet with wear.

Why are my shoes so stiff?

Due to the nature of our structured canvas, as well as the built-in padding and support, Orza Pro ballet shoes will feel stiff when you first put them on! There is a 'break-in' period, but they WILL soften and mold to your feet with wear. You can manually break in the toe area by bending it back and forth, like a pointe shoe.

Why non-stretch canvas?

Orza Pro ballet shoes are made of traditional, non-stretch canvas. Extensive research of materials combined with decades-long experience as professional dancers, formed our decision to use a traditional non-stretch canvas. We find it offers the support, light resistance, and durability that we value in a ballet shoe.

Ballet Shoes & Dancer Health FAQ

What are ballet shoes used for?

Ballet shoes are lightweight footwear designed to allow dancers to move freely while maintaining contact with the floor. They are typically made from canvas or leather and allow the dancer to articulate the foot during movements such as jumps, turns, and pointe preparation. Ballet shoes must be flexible enough for technique while still providing protection during long hours of training. Modern ballet footwear continues to evolve as dancers seek better performance, durability, and protection from the repetitive impact experienced in daily classes and rehearsals.

How should ballet shoes fit?

Ballet shoes should fit snugly like a second skin without restricting circulation or movement. The shoe should contour closely to the foot with minimal extra fabric, allowing dancers to fully articulate their arches and toes. A properly fitted ballet shoe should not bunch, wrinkle, or slide while dancing. Because different brands vary in fit and construction, dancers often test multiple styles before finding the best option. A secure fit helps improve control, balance, and overall performance in ballet technique.

Why do dancers experience foot pain in ballet?

Ballet places significant stress on the feet due to repetitive jumping, landing, turning, and extended rehearsal schedules. Each jump creates impact forces that travel through the foot and up the body. Over time this repetitive impact can lead to soreness, inflammation, and overuse injuries. Many dancers experience pain in the balls of the feet, heels, shins, knees, or lower back. Footwear that helps reduce impact may support dancers during intense training and help protect the body from repetitive stress.

Can ballet cause plantar fasciitis?

Yes, ballet dancers can develop plantar fasciitis due to repetitive impact and strain placed on the foot’s connective tissues. The plantar fascia supports the arch of the foot and absorbs stress during movement. Frequent jumping, landing, and pointe preparation can place excessive load on this structure, leading to inflammation and heel pain. Proper training, recovery, and footwear designed to reduce repetitive stress may help dancers manage or prevent plantar fasciitis during demanding rehearsal schedules.

Can ballet cause shin splints?

Shin splints are a common overuse injury among dancers. They occur when repetitive stress is placed on the muscles and connective tissue along the shinbone. Jumping, landing, and sudden increases in training intensity can contribute to shin pain. In ballet, dancers often repeat jumps and fast footwork sequences many times during class and rehearsal, increasing impact forces. Managing training load, strengthening the lower leg, and wearing footwear that helps reduce impact may help dancers minimize the risk of shin splints.

ORZA Ballet Shoe Questions

What makes ORZA ballet shoes different?

ORZA ballet shoes are designed with performance technology that helps absorb impact while maintaining the feel of a traditional ballet shoe. The patented construction integrates shock-absorbing materials into the sole, helping reduce the repetitive impact dancers experience during class, rehearsal, and performance. Unlike traditional ballet shoes that provide minimal cushioning, ORZA shoes aim to support dancer longevity while maintaining flexibility, control, and aesthetics required for classical ballet training.

How do ORZA ballet shoes reduce impact?

ORZA ballet shoes incorporate specialized materials engineered to absorb and disperse impact forces generated during jumps and landings. When dancers repeatedly land from jumps, those forces travel through the foot and up the body. By reducing the intensity of this impact, ORZA shoes may help reduce stress on the feet, shins, knees, and back. This technology allows dancers to maintain the sensitivity and articulation needed for technique while supporting long-term physical health.

Are ORZA ballet shoes good for professional dancers?

ORZA ballet shoes are designed for dancers at every level, including professional performers. Professional dancers often train and rehearse for many hours each day, which can place significant stress on the body. Footwear that helps reduce repetitive impact may support dancers during intense schedules. ORZA shoes aim to provide the flexibility required for technique while helping dancers maintain endurance and comfort during long rehearsal periods.

Are ORZA ballet shoes good for student dancers?

ORZA ballet shoes are designed to support dancers at all stages of training, including students. Young dancers often train multiple days per week while their bodies are still developing, which can place stress on the feet and lower legs. Footwear that helps reduce repetitive impact may support healthier training habits over time. ORZA shoes are built to maintain the flexibility needed for proper technique while helping students stay comfortable and confident throughout class, rehearsal, and performance.

Are ORZA ballet shoes good for pre-pointe dancers?

ORZA ballet shoes are well-suited for pre-pointe dancers as they build the strength and technique required for pointe work. During this stage, dancers focus on developing foot strength, alignment, and control while gradually increasing load through relevés and jumps. Because training intensity is increasing, managing repetitive impact becomes especially important. ORZA shoes are designed to maintain the flexibility needed for proper articulation while helping reduce stress on the feet and lower legs, supporting a more comfortable and confident transition toward pointe.

Are ORZA ballet shoes good for adult dancers?

ORZA ballet shoes are well-suited for adult dancers, whether returning to ballet or training consistently. Adult dancers may be more aware of joint stress, fatigue, or past injuries, especially during jumps and extended classes. Footwear that helps reduce repetitive impact may support comfort and longevity in training. ORZA shoes are designed to provide the flexibility required for ballet technique while helping adult dancers move with greater ease, confidence, and reduced strain during class.

Can ORZA ballet shoes help reduce foot pain?

Many dancers report that reducing repetitive impact can help alleviate common training discomfort. ORZA ballet shoes are designed to absorb shock generated from jumps and landings, which may help reduce strain on the feet and lower legs. Dancers have reported reduced discomfort in areas such as the balls of the feet, heels, and shins. While footwear cannot eliminate all training-related discomfort, improved impact management may help dancers train longer with less stress on the body.

Do ORZA ballet shoes feel different from traditional ballet shoes?

ORZA shoes are designed to preserve the feel and aesthetics of traditional ballet footwear while incorporating modern performance technology. Most dancers adapt quickly because the shoe maintains flexibility and articulation needed for technique. The difference often becomes noticeable during jumps and long rehearsals, where dancers may feel reduced fatigue or stress on their feet due to the impact-absorbing construction.

Ballet Performance Questions

Can ballet shoes affect jumping ability?

Yes, footwear can influence how dancers experience jumping. Ballet jumps require power, control, and safe landings. Traditional ballet shoes provide minimal cushioning, which means dancers absorb most impact through their bodies. Shoes designed to absorb impact may help reduce fatigue and allow dancers to maintain energy during longer rehearsals or performances. Improved shock absorption can support dancers when repeating demanding jump combinations.

How can dancers improve endurance in ballet?

Endurance in ballet comes from a combination of physical conditioning, technique efficiency, and recovery. Dancers build endurance through consistent training, strength work, and cardiovascular conditioning. Managing fatigue also involves minimizing unnecessary strain during movement. Equipment such as flooring and footwear can play a role in how the body absorbs repetitive impact. Reducing unnecessary stress may help dancers maintain energy during extended rehearsals and performances.

Why do dancers get tired feet during class?

Dancers often experience foot fatigue because the small muscles in the feet work continuously to stabilize the body during movement. Pointe preparation, relevés, jumps, and quick directional changes all require constant engagement of these muscles. When repeated over long training sessions, the feet can become fatigued. Reducing excessive impact and improving efficiency of movement may help dancers maintain comfort during extended classes.

Ballet Shoe Fit Questions

Should ballet shoes be smaller than street shoes?

Many ballet shoes are designed to fit slightly tighter than everyday shoes to eliminate excess material and allow precise control of the foot. However, they should not cause pain or compress the toes excessively. The correct fit depends on the brand, materials, and dancer preference. A well-fitted ballet shoe should feel secure, flexible, and supportive without restricting movement.

How long do ballet shoes last?

The lifespan of ballet shoes varies depending on training intensity, dancer weight, and shoe construction. Students may wear the same pair for several months, while professionals often replace shoes much more frequently due to daily rehearsal schedules. Frequent jumping and floor work accelerate wear. Some dancers rotate multiple pairs to extend their lifespan.

ORZA Brand Questions

Who created ORZA ballet shoes?
